Storm of all Storms

While not the most powerful storm to ever hit the United States, I think Katrina will be the costliest and perhaps even the most deadly. Even the Galveston “no-named” storm and the infamous Labor Day storm do not compare to the devastation brought by this hurricane which ironically, fell on my 27th birthday.

I have always been enthralled by nature but there is something about the sheer size and power of a hurricane of this size that is hypnotic to say the least. I find myself constantly watching videos and reading the accounts of what happened. The stories of heroism and sadness are both extremely abound. I cannot imagine what it would be like to see that kind of water rise in such a large area. We humans are truly no match for anything mother nature has to offer.

I remember in 2001 when I played baseball in Iowa--the Mississippi flooded 18 feet above normal levels. This resulted in extreme flooding of about 5 blocks of the riverfront sector. At one point, water was almost 6 feet deep. This is nothing compared to what New Orleans, Gulfport, and Biloxi are facing.

It couldn’t have happened in a worse spot either. Almost 30% of the people in that part of the country live in poverty and could not get out by their own means. These people literally were waiting for their deaths. What kinds of thoughts go through their minds during a situation like that? What could they be thinking as they watched the waters rise? What were their last statements? How do you say goodbye to someone in that situation?

There are just too many questions in a situation like this. It is almost surreal how much damage has been done, and the waters are still rising. You couldn’t wish this on anyone..

Sir Podalot

Oh man do I love this iPod. In my first two days, I’ve put 9 gigs worth of music on it. The sound is amazing, the options are endless, and I flat out love it! I should have about 15 gigs on it when it’s all said and done. That is only music too; I’ll be putting a lot of data and pictures on it.

My birthday ended up being awesome. I had a great day overall despite some temporary drama. I am excited about this weekend (going home to Fort Myers). We may be going over to Ft Lauderdale to a casino and making complete asses out of ourselves. That is the best way to live I say.

Here's the Pod in it's protective case so no one is mean to it. I am addicted to my Pod. Woot Woot!

The Big 27

Today is my 27th birthday. I am going through a lot of emotions but the vast majority of them are good. To this point I have had an immensely fortunate life, with excellent support from both my family and friends. I have graduated from an excellent college, played professional baseball, and lived in some very different parts of our country. I have a good job and love the city I live in. My family is amazing and they have always been behind me no matter what has happened.

I have so many amazing people in my life. I feel very blessed to have such good friends and people that genuinely help me to be a better person. Lately things have been up and down with me selling the Mustang and Rio and me going through our tribulations. I think now that things should start to mellow out and I can focus more on being the person that I want to be.

My new website is awesome. I can’t wait to put an insane amount of pictures on it. I am very much looking forward to really keeping the site fresh with new music and content.

Slowly but surely I can put all of the elements together now: Music, Me, and Traveling. I feel very enlightened today and I’m looking forward to becoming the person I’ve always wanted to be.

Swif Me

After balking at the idea, I am now a happy swiffer owner. This story follows a similar path as the pomade story. Incidentally, thanks to Rio I have actually gone into my third can of Pomade. I foresee lots of Pomade in my future until I get to the point where I feel comfortable shaving my head again.

The swiffer shall be a mainstay in my house from now on. It is affordable and very easy to use. I can’t believe I was still using a regular mop. Sometimes stubbornness can lead to more effort and I am cramped for time enough as it is.

So onward I swiff, and clean my floors shall be.

Protesting

Can someone on this earth please tell me why in the hell every protestor looks the same? Is there a rule that says

- Each person in protest must have a long beard, be very gangly and look as if they've spent the better part of the last decade living under a bridge in georgia.

No wonder no one listens to them.

Soup

I love soup. I think somehow there is a soup strain in my DNA that activates and release large amounts of endorphins when I eat soup. Seriously I think I’ve averaged a can of soup per day for almost 2 months now. There is no sign of this delightfulness slowing down either.

Things are going well. I went home for the weekend and had a nice time. I didn’t get much sleep but still it was worth the drive. This week I don’t have too much going on yet, but things always seem to come up. I found a buyer for the Mustang and I think I’m going to sell it. I don’t drive it anymore and can’t really say that I will. The Camry is too easy to drive and has been such and excellent car thus far. My goals have not changed though: I still want to get another Mustang or performance car down the road.

Bitter Bladder

I am not exactly sure why, but my bladder does not like water. It loves mountain dew, whiskey, and several other beverages but if you put water in it: forget staying in one place for too long. I drank around 40 ounces of water in a 4 hour spurt this morning and I swear I peed 10 times. I had quick thoughts of just getting a large bucket and putting it under my desk and just peeing in there.

I can drink 2 to 3 diet sodas in a day and maybe pee twice. I have 2 bottles of water in 4 hours and you would think I’m the poster child for those weak bladder commercials.

The human body puzzles me…

Home Safe

Discovery landed this morning safely at Edwards AFB in California. It was very exciting to watch and see how fast it actually entered the atmosphere. I’m still amazed at some of the technology we have and we don’t even know about a lot of it.

Yaddah

I always have such ambition to write these elaborate blogs and then when I start typing it just kind of dies. I guess if I actually had something compelling to write about it would help.

Not much new going on at the moment. I’m really enjoying my house and new furniture. I hope to finally finish my first track in a week or two and move on from there. I also picked up a new sponsor for LightSpeed and finished the OGR promo packs and stickers. My main goal for the station this year is just to increase the number of listeners slowly and secure a mid-level sponsor for us. It’s going to be hard though, as there are a lot of other radio stations out there with more money, etc than we have.

The weight loss quest is going ok. I have still been doing good overall, but have slipped up now and then. I really need to get out and do some serious cardio to work myself back into shape. It’s so nice the A/C though ;)

I’m yawning already and it is 10:30 am. I need someone to periodically walk by the office and squirt me with hot tar to keep me alert.

Death to all SemiColons

I hate semicolons. I am trying to learn them more efficiently along with some other grammar things that I think would help my writing.

I still cannot get them right all of the time. I seriously wish that semicolons were things I could beat up.

Somewhere there is a semicolon support group laughing at me..

SCP

God I love hanging out with a fellow SCP Mobster.

My friend Shon came up this weekend and he is someone I’ve known since elementary school. We went out in Orlando both nights and had an awesome time. I can’t tell you how hard we laughed and how obnoxious we were to the general public.

It was a really good time and makes me miss the days when the baseball team would hang out all day together. It’s amazing how fast life seems to go sometimes. I can’t believe that I turn 27 this month. I can’t believe that in 3 years I’ll be 30 years old. I refuse to grow up. I still want to act like a moron when I’m 40. Youth is a state of mind I say.

So work is about the same today. I am looking forward to this evening when I leave at 5 and don’t have to be back until 8 tomorrow. I’m also looking forward to the end of this miserable heat. It is 94 here and the humidity makes it feel like it’s 110. It’s like walking into a fog when you go outside. Forget staying dry; even just walking to the car.
